The EVO X 5-speed has to be one of the most beautifully engineered transmissions we have seen in a Mitsubishi. The large triple synchro 1st and 2nd to the double synchro 3rd, 4th and 5th make these very strong and a joy to drive! Please read out review of the EVO X trans HERE

Unfortunately the unit will need to be serviced if raced, abused or neglected. There are also issues with the center diff pins, shift fork pins and the 3-4 fork that might creep up to bite you as well.

Center diff pin failures

Most people are only replacing the pins when repairing/upgrading your X center diff.  This will not work!  The reason the diff pins fail is due to a lubrication issue.  The gears don't have enough oil, so they seize to the shafts which break the pins as the twisting force applied to the pins is more than they can eventually take.  The seized gear will twist the locking pin right off the shaft.  Upgraded pins will delay the failure of the shafts working their way through your case, which is fine for most builders as it will live through their warranty, but WILL NOT solve the lubrication issue.  What we do is tear the whole center diff down.  We modify the shafts to allow for more oil, we upgrade the pins for added insurance, and we then add scoops to the center diff housing to force more oil inside the assembly.  The way the assembly is designed is flawed in that the faster you drive your car the less oil is able to get inside.  Our scoops will force more oil in the assembly the faster you go and it works!  Some info HERE on how we do it (the link is of what we do to a DSM center diff, but it also has the same issue and your X center will get the same treatment)  If that wasn't enough, there's more!  We also modify the sun gear pins so they can float in the housing.  This modification, along with the scoops, is the major difference between our center diff rebuilds and everyone else.  Have the peace of mind that your diff will live forever with our modifications and never give you an issue again!  We offer a lifetime warranty against center diff failure due to how well our modification works!  Ask any of our competitors if they would give you a lifetime warranty on your center diff, we believe the answer to be 'NO'.

WPC GEAR TREATMENT

WPC is a permanent surface treatment that reduces friction while strengthening the part. Its unique micro-dimple formation pattern greatly reduces friction and is unmatched by conventional methods of surface treatment. It is a proven process that has been utilized for many years in the racing and automotive industry and is complimented by utilizing our REM/ISF treatment. WPC can strengthen parts in two ways. First it adds an extremely high level of compressive stress at, and near, the surface. The second, is that the WPC treatment creates a Nano - Crystalline structure at the surface of the metal. Both of these mean that metal fatigue and crack initiation are both noticeably reduced; thus strengthening the gears and shafts inside of the transmission.

REM ISF MICROPOLISH

REM / ISF is a gentle polish on the gears done by machine that will smooth and remove some stress concentrations uniformly. It also polishes the gears in the area they make contact with other parts, so you have less friction loss which means less heat, better fuel economy, and longer life. Center diff pins are modified so they do not back out and go through your case. OEM on the LEFT, modified on the RIGHT.  Not the most elegant looking, but very effective.  This is a very time consuming process which only we perform in-house:

Clean facility and state-of-the-art cleaning equipment

Parts cleaned using industrial parts washers and exterior coated.  Exceptionally clean units is one of the reasons why our transmissions are the highest quality in the business!  We have state-of-the-art cleaning equipment which other trans builders could only dream of.  More info HERE

With the best cleaning equipment, we also have a very clean facility.  All units are built in a spotless environment and using tools, and benches, which are clean and only used for assembly purposes.  In other words, the same tools used to pull your dirty old trans out of your car are NOT the same tools used to rebuild your pristine unit afterward. Take a look at the typical shop and check their tools.  It is shocking how dirty things are in most shops and that dirt will end up in your unit.  That doesn't happen here. 

Shipping

Your unit is also shipped in a double walled custom made box for Jacks Transmissions.  Your unit will be sitting snugly, and safely, in preformed foam pads to assure trouble free delivery.
